walls up!

The drywall installation is 99% finished; now we prime?

The drywall guys finished up yesterday afternooon with a final sanding and then cleaned up after themselves. It is good to have the walls up and to have our house to ourselves again.

The walls are solid and smooth. After the 1st day, the only changes were that that the lines of mud on the joints kept getting wider and smoother.

There are still a few issues with the drywall. The mangled trim is the biggie. These are slated to be dealt with in a return visit after we prime. Ricardo, the lead guy, said that it is easier to spot the imperfections after primer has been applied, and so they will return then and do a final fixing. The last 10% of the payment is being held until after this step.

We definitely have to prime&paint before we can use the rooms. We have to figure out if we have the energy&$$$ to get the floors done now. This would make sense, but our schedules will be be so jammed in a few weeks when school starts that it just might not be possible. We also have to get a plan together for getting the trim back up. One thing leads to another; one day maybe we'll get to rest and enjoy it.

Looks great! Even if you don't plan to paint or use the rooms right away, I would still recommend priming them now anyway. Primed walls make such a HUGE difference in how the rooms feel - all the stripes would be gone and the space would feel finished and wonderful! At least that's how we felt after we primed ;)

Oh yeah - and primed walls make the rooms feel much CLEANER, too. You know you've eradicated all that spackle dust!

The house looks absolutely amazing! I can't get over the difference. Word of caution: hold onto the last payment w/the drywall guys. Our experience was the same when our bathrooms were done. The drywall guys never came back after the priming, and the lead contractor didn't know how to fix the boo-boos. Consequently, I've now got a joint that's cracked, some not too smooth areas, and nail pops after only about 3 1/2 months. Hold onto the money!!!!
