towards having a (prefabulous) tool shed

Sometime soon, we're going to need a tool shed. In a move away from anything old or having that particular kind of character, we're planning on building something that will require minimal fiddling to have standing and solid, but won't be a plastic eyesore.

Six months after opening the last door downstairs, we've opened the last nailed-shut door upstairs.

getting a quote on some balusters

The balusters on our front porch are all long gone, replaced by sturdy if not attractive 2x4 rail. We're starting the process of fixing this by putting in for a quote on what it would cost to get the balusters turned.

a modern house by architect Robert Stewart

We went on a tour of a contemporary house designed by architect Robert Stewart. The house overlooks the north bank of the James River and the canal and is for sale for price for which you could have bought merely 7.85 of our house (ie not quite an entire city block).

Hopewell, Virginia

We've had great experiences visiting some of the nearby smaller&older cities around the region (like Petersburg, Virginia and Wilmington, North Carolina) and checkin' out their old houses and urban areas. We went to Hopewell, Virginia, over the weekend looking for something similar but either it just wasn't there or we missed it entirely...
