Summer is over and suddenly our free time is just gone. Grad school and the new teaching job started this past week, so it looks like the house will be on hold for a little while.

towards having a more level floor

The floor joist under the wall between the kitchen and bathroom has sagged several inches over the years. Fixing this is one of the projects that we have to do before it gets cold out, so that we can replace the missing bathroom floor.

If you have squirrels and old roof, you might get a real kick out of William Sawalich's An Open Letter to the Squirrel Trying to Chew Its Way Through My Roof over at McSweeney's. We had some creature living in the ceiling our first winter in the house and it about drove us mad.
