more about the porch
Now that it's warm, we've been prepping the new porch to finish painting. We've decided that the screen was probably installed backwards.
The screen on the upstairs porch is installed with the support on the outside. This means that the corners and horizontal surfaces are collecting everything that is falling from the sky (see below). It also means that, when on the porch, we see the f-ing vinyl system used to attach the screen. If this were reversed, there would be less surface outside the screen and all of the plastic would be mostly unseen except at a distance.
There are some examples on the manufacture's site here and here. These pictures aren't super clear, but seem to support our interpretation.
We can fix this, obviously, but it is annoying. A little funny, maybe, but mostly annoying. Something else to add to the list...
Collected stuff that now requires a ladder to deal with.
Lester does not care.

Yeah...the vinyl screen was installed backwards. But look at the bright side of it all - when you need to replace the screen, you can do so from inside your porch and not on a ladder.

And your cats don't seem to mind! (What my cats would give for a screened in porch to hang out in!)

Dumb question, but have you tried blowing the collected crap off the window screen with a blowdryer or the reverse of your shop vac?

M -- That is a good idea... The stuff is wedged in the crevice, though. We've gotten into the habit of hauling the ladder around occasionally.
