yard fantasies
We met with a landscape architect (because we could).
In the midst of continuing, endless demolition and insulating, we met with an landscape architect this past weekend. Yes, it is winter and we are broke... We've got a neat thing going, though: he needs a website and we'd eventually like to have a beautiful yard, so we are swapping skills. He'll be providing us with drawings and information, and I'll be putting together a website for him. Um, if any contractors out there are interested in something similar, please please please contact us :)
The initial meeting was informative. He walked around looking at our yard, asking questions and making suggestions. He also had a checklist of different like/dislike questions that seemed to get good info out of us. The next thing will be getting to see some drawings in a few weeks. At that point, he'll have specific suggestions about plants/trees/material, and numbers on cost.
It'll be at least a few years before we'll be able to get do anything to the yard. It is difficult to imagine that our yard that started off so overgrown and abused could ever be that comfortable.

That's very exciting! I've had classes with landscape architects recently and it gave me an immense respect for them; they are filled with skills & knowledge.
