more demo; a new doorway
Since last week when we took that wall down in the hallway, we've pulled down the plaster and lathe in that section towards being able to insulate. We've also opened another door that had been screwed shut all of this time.
Having what is essentially a new door to the porch creates a direct line from the front door to the back. For the second time in 10 days or so the flow of the house underwent an awesome change as we restore the original spaces of the house. In the floorplans, the door that is now open is in the entrance hallway, behind the wall that we just pulled down.

Is the newly opened door upstairs or downstairs? (On the floorplan diagram it looks like you opened the door upstairs, but in the picture it looks like a downstairs door.

It's downstairs. The door has always been there, just screwed shut. It wasn't a bog job, just something that we hadn't been able to get around to. It just wasn't worth opening before the hallway was opened up.
The upstairs door was actually dry-walled over and so completely gone in the beginning. We've uncovered it, but haven;t gotten around to being able to deal with the hardware (hinges, knobs, locks, etc) of getting the upstairs door open.

That lil'cat is Key-Key, the outdoor cat that has been with us the longest. Her sister and brother, Teenie and Weenie, are around some but not as often. Key-Key and Mitsu are the downstairs porch cats these days.

Wow! All the little changes really add up don't they? Does the door have a transom window above? It's a little hard to tell from the picture. If so, it should let in light.
I'm really enjoying watching your progress.

The door does have a transom! It's currently mostly duct-taped, to cover the cracks in the glass. It'll be cool when we can get to the details like that, one of these days.
