seeking decent ductwork
We're looking to get some of our ductwork replaced. So far it has been difficult to find someone to do the work. The first company that came out did gave us quote, but the guys that would be doing the work actually said that they'd prefer not to do it and gave us the number of another guy "that loves working on the old houses". This guy, Bruce, didn't return our calls and eventually told us that he won't do work in our neighborhood "because it's gross". His response feels like thinly-veiled racism to me, and all we can really do is be sort of pissed and keep looking for a decent contractor.

Argh. We got the same type of response from a window guy. He too informed us that he "didnt work in our neighborhood" and then was fairly snotty about it. We soothed ourselves by remembering that we wouldnt want to work with or give our business to that kind of person anyway. Sorry you had the experience though. :(

There is a great contractor in Church Hill, named Chris Bruhn of Bruhn Properties. They make their living restoring old homes on the hill and Highland Park. They also do new construction on the hill. I know they focus mainly on tackling a house from top to bottom and then reselling it, as well as doing some rather fancy porch work, but they may be able to help out with some of the jobs you can't find contractors for- or at least point you to someone who can. The office is in the top floor of a blue home at the corner of 31st & M. I don't know the number, but I hope that helps!

WE SHOULD ALL DO MORE RESERCH ON THESE CONTRACTORS. THAT CHRIS BRUHN GUY WAS INDITED FOR GRAND LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT,AND HAS BEEN FIRED FROM NUMEROUS OTHER CONTRACTING COMPANIES FOR SHADY DEALINGS. I WOULDN'T TRUST UM.
