National Night Out

Tonight was our neighborhood celebration of National Night Out, organized by the New Vision Civic League and Faith Holy Christian Church of Deliverance.

Maybe 200 people came out, as well as a few firemen, our city council representative Vice Mayor Delores McQuinn and representatives from Better Housing Coalition. There was pizza and hot dogs and a moon bounce and gift certificate give-aways (to a beauty supply shop on 25th and also a few large retailers that shall not be named). The firemen were offering a blood pressure screening, as well as free smoke detectors. There was also voter registration, which I would've loved to have seen get more attention.

R. is pretty sure that she saw the woman that offered to sweep our porch for $2 back when we first moved in. (This interaction was not so much desperate as just weird [insistent, irrational], and early enough on in our living here to rather color our perception of the next few months.)

your night out party looked like fun...lots of activities and involvement froom the community. Our party was pretty good, not as large, but a lot bigger than last year with lots of new faces and good food and conversation. We did get a visit from the Chief of Police, City Manager, Vice-Mayor, and lots of fireman, police officers and other City officials. We also had TV crews from 8 and 12 (i think) Our crowd was quite diverse- with plenty of photo ops for City Officials etc.

I wanted to wander up y'all's way, but we ran out of time. After all of that, there was plenty of cleanup to do.
