the name of the neighborhood

I'm not really sure what the name of our neighborhood is. To anyone that lives in another part of the city, the only name that they might recognize would probably be Church Hill.

There is some confusion as to whether or not we are actually part of Church Hill. There is definitely a difference between our part of the world and Church Hill as it is along Broad and Grace and Franklin streets.

There is another area called Union Hill that is very close to us, but that doesn't include our streets on any map that I've seen. A map for the city's 'Neighborhoods in Bloom' program calls our area Church Hill Central, while a map of Richmond neighborhoods published for visitors and another map published by A.C.O.R.N. calls our area Fairmont. The Church Hill Oral History Collection at VCU makes mention of some of the streets around us.

The consensus seems to be that we are in Fairmont, which is only problematic because nobody knows where that is. So, for the record: Fairmont is the neighborhood just north of Union Hill and just west of northern Church Hill.

  1. Fairmont
from a .pdf from Richmond City's map page

  2. Church Hill
from Richmond City's 'Neighborhoods in Bloom' program

  3. Fairmont
from A.C.O.R.N.'s map of Richmond neighborhoods
I'm assuming that the line between Union Hill and Church Hill is Jefferson and then 25th St, which would put us in the blank spot just to the north of Union Hill and west of Church Hill.
