a littany of excuses

A cat is sick; we're still getting quotes; some freelance work; spring. All of these are some of the reasons that we have not been working on the house...

What the f*ck are you looking at?

This is the porch that might fall off.

a cat is sick

One of our new outside cats Keykey was observed acting listless and possibly showing the effects of some digestive issues (*ahem*). We took her to see Dr. Jack at the Church Hill Animal Hospital. She (the cat, not Dr.Jack) is sick, it turns out, and needs a week's worth of medicine. Since medicating the feral kitty outside would be at best difficult, we're keeping her in a giant cage (borrowed from the vet!) in the room that we were going to demo this week.

to fix a porch

We're in the process of getting quotes to fix the back porch and the floor of the bathroom upstairs. Part of this process is just learning the scope of the work involved. The porch is pretty shabby... We're a little nervous about the numbers involved; we're also a little nervous about the porch itself.

some freelance work

I've picked up freelance web dev stuff. As there is a porch and a ring to pay for, and as this pays better than substitute teaching and making coffee drinks, I've been glad for the work. Still, though, it keeps me from getting the larger, dustier, noisier jobs done. As a shameless plug, the site for Richmond's best coffee shop/bookstore/wine bar is now finished, Fredericksburg's finest residential/commercial electrical contractor will soon have new site, and a certain metal band will soon have an easy to use e-commerce backend.

spring

And it has gotten awful nice outside, if you're ok with pollen. This means it is time to cut grass and start the fight against the remnants against last years' weeds, vines, and ivy. Next weekend is also the Neighborhoods in Bloom Hosts Walking Tour (PDF), and apparently some of the houses on our block are spot-lighted. So -- we want our junk to look as best we can, too...
