We’re not just renovating the house by fixing rotted wood or fixing bad siding choices from 1963. Sometimes what we have to do is add back the peripheral detail that was lost over the years…

slow site update in progress
We’re renovating this site and things’ll be a little loosy-goosy around here for a while. After 3 years, I’ve grown to hate MovableType & so we’re moving everthing over to WordPress. Yay WordPress!

the roses and the dead thing under the porch
This was the week that the rose bush freaked out and popped crazy beautiful flowers, and it looks like we’ll have plenty more over the next few days. This was also the week that something died somewhere in the wall or under the porch and it has been *stinky* all around the front yard and the front of the house.

attempting a small garden
We’ve planted a small garden again this year, despite the failures of the past. Ideally, we’ll be able to provide ourselves with beans and carrots and oregeno and cucumbers and basil.

and finally a fence gate
The privacy fence around our backyard was installed, by a previous tenant, with a slapdash manner that apparently precluded including a gate. This was kind of awkward, as the full trash cans were in the backyard when we got the place. After 45 months, we finally managed to put a gate into one of the sections that we moved last year.

reuse of old parking
We have a cement pad on the back alley that used to be some kind of garage. The pad had apparently been some kind of neighborhood dump for a while there, because it was filled with trash when we bought the house. We have a better plan…
